Former Cardinals GM Bing Devine dies at age 90 (AP)
Bing Devine, the St. Louis general manager who helped build Cardinals teams that won three National League pennants and two World Series in the 1960s, died Saturday. He was 90. Garcia agrees to minor league contract with Phillies (AP)
Outfielder Karim Garcia agreed to a minor league contract with the Philadelphia Phillies and was invited Friday to spring training. The 31-year-old played with Orix of Japan’s Pacific League the last two seasons. He last played in the majors in 2004, splitting the season between the New York Mets and Baltimore Orioles.

Right-hander Antonio Alfonseca agreed to a one-year contract with the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday. Alfonseca agreed to the major league minimum of $380,000, and if he appears on the regular-season roster, his base salary will be increased to $700,000. All-Star second baseman Chase Utley and the Philadelphia Phillies agreed Sunday to an $85 million, seven-year contract. Utley hit .309 last season with 40 doubles, 32 homers, 102 RBIs and 131 runs. He also had a 35-game hitting streak that tied for the 10th-longest in major league history and longest by a second baseman.
